The Morion, an evolution of the earlier Kettle Hat, was popular during the 16th and early 17th centuries. It usually featured a "comb" or crest, which was originally intended to help in deflecting blows and strengthening the construction, though on later models this feature was often exaggerated as a decorative feature. The Morion, though often associated with Spanish conquistadors, was common among foot soldiers throughout Europe.
